Product Care & Help Guide
Bedding Accessories Care & Maintenance Guide
At Barking Sleep, our bedding accessories are engineered to enhance sleep comfort and protect your bed from everyday wear. Proper care ensures maximum hygiene, thermal comfort, and product longevity. Please review our expert maintenance recommendations below.
1. Unboxing & Initial Preparation
- Air Out: Carefully unpack your new mattress topper or pillow protector and allow it to air out flat in a well-ventilated room for 2 to 4 hours. This allows plush fills to regain natural loft after transit.
- Smooth Fitting: Gently stretch elasticated skirts over all four corners of your mattress to ensure an even, crease-free surface without over-stretching the seams.
2. Washing Guidelines
Always inspect the sewn-in care label on your specific accessory prior to washing:
- Water Temperature: Machine wash on a gentle cycle at 30°C to 40°C. Avoid washing at temperatures above 50°C, as excess heat can weaken waterproof membranes and elastic skirts.
- Detergent: Use a mild, non-biological liquid laundry detergent. Avoid powdered detergents that may leave residue on breathable membranes.
- Never Use Bleach: Bleach corrodes waterproof backings and damages cotton fibres.
- Skip Fabric Conditioners: Fabric softeners coat protective micro-pores, reducing the breathability and absorbency of mattress protectors.
3. Drying & Ironing Warnings
- Line Drying: We strongly advise air-drying your bedding accessories over a clothes airer or outdoor washing line.
- Tumble Drying: If necessary, tumble dry strictly on a Low Heat / Air-Fluff setting. High heat will delaminate waterproof barriers.
- Do Not Iron: Domestic irons will melt internal barrier linings and synthetic quilting fills.
- Do Not Dry Clean: Commercial chemical solvents will ruin protective coatings.
4. Recommended Care Schedule
Mattress Protectors: Wash every 4 to 8 weeks, or immediately following unexpected liquid spills. Replace every 1 to 2 years for optimal hygiene.
Pillow Protectors: Launder every 3 to 4 weeks. Replace every 12 to 18 months to prevent allergen buildup.
Mattress Toppers: Rotate head-to-toe every 3 months to promote uniform cushioning and prevent body indentations.
